481 Summer 2007
Observing project II this summer will be expanding a test of a method for identifying candidate RR Lyrae stars based on a comparison of POSS and SDSS photometry. Candidate RR Lyrae are selected using stars that have brightened at least 0.3 magnitudes between POSS and SDSS, and which have SDSS magnitudes and colors consistent with the cuts in Ivezic et al. 2004.
Brani's paper about all this is here. Check out figures 12 and 11.
Last summer we found that at least two thirds of our sample of 23 objects were clearly variable, with light curves consistent with RR Lyrae.
Notes
Please feel free to improve the documentation for add_headers. Maybe you can think of a better name too! Backup copy is here. Link to page with archive data link . Soon to come link to light curves are here
