From PACSINFO

Jump to: navigation, search

The Department of Physics has two file servers, one for faculty and staff and one for graduate and undergraduate students. You can mount these file systems within the building via wired and wireless connections. You cannot mount these file system from home directly. Here's how to do it:

Before you start, be sure you email help@phys.washington.edu and request Samba (SMB) access to the file server your home directory resides on. Also, please send us your UWNetID login (example: "richardc" is my UW net ID login).

  • In the Finder, head to the menu bar and select Go->Connect to Server... (alternately, you can press Apple-K)

Selecting Connection

  • Next, type smb://, then full domain name of the file server, and then /users/ as shown below. Click "Connect".

Connecting to a File Server

Currently, we have SMB access to the following file servers:

 gradsrv.phys.washington.edu
 groundhog.phys.washington.edu
  • Next you'll be prompted for your username and password. Type netid\ and then your UW NetID username (not your Physics login name) as shown below. Click "Connect".

Type Your UWNETID Username/Password

For Mac OS X 10.4, you will see a screen more like this:

Type Your UWNETID Username/Password

  • Voila! The file server is mounted and you can access your Unix directories from your Mac!

As always, if you have any problems, please send a message to help@phys.washington.edu.
